The aesthetic of molecular systems

"...biological research is interesting in a general sort of way, but what does it have to do with arts? Desconstruction of biological concepts is intriguing, but is it specifically important to the arts? (...) There is no way to scape the questions being raised about nature, life, sex, humanness, and the body(...) the new technologies also creat unprecedented opportunities. Notions that were once science fiction notions are now most acessible. Peer into the brains and hearts of yourself and others.
Change your sex.
Change your body.
Integrate bionic elements.
Clone yourself.
Create a new organism.
Enhance your intelligence, sex drive, life expectancy, mood, whatever! If these actions can be initiated for science, entertainment, or commerce, why not art?..." Stephen Wilson (Information Arts; Intersections of art, science and technology, 2002 p.88)
